Importance of water to Indigenous community- Challenges of Great Lakes
•Influx of water into Lake Erie changes the water composition and is agley growing.
•Great lakes are becoming toxic because of dumping waste, sewage, and fuel residue in them.
To the Indigenous communities around the basin, the Great Lakes waters, plants, and wildlife provide a
continuation of lifeways and a sense of identity. Indigenous communities recognize that the inherent
value of the Great Lakes must be maintained through a relationship founded on respect and care.

Recycle and save the Earth
The Great Lakes hold significant importance as a cherished natural resource. Once a source
of pristine freshwater, they have unfortunately become contaminated and unsuitable for
consumption due to pollution. The impact of this pollution has been detrimental to the
wildlife inhabiting these waters, resulting in the death of several creatures. Preserving the
Great Lakes necessitates a collective effort to refrain from littering and to protect our planet.

Great Lakes of Canada’s location and Wildlife
